First Checkup

Well, I guess I'll begin with an introduction.
Hi there, names Jacob Ritter, but you can call me Chewie, as in Chewbacca. I'm a New Media student looking to one day work in the video game industry. So I thought for my capstone that I'd do a 30 second to 1 minute 3D short.

To me personally I believe the capstone for New Media atleast isn't really just something we have to do just so we can graduate. To me it's more of a defining piece of our skills. When employers are looking for someone to hire, an excellent capstone is something that puts your foot in the door and show off our talents. I also think that we should start our capstones atleast a year before we graduate. This would give us plenty of time to get things working and polished off. Feeling rushed on a major project while still attending class everyday can put a lot of unneeded pressure on yourself, so having plenty of time to work on it relieves some of that pressure.

The basis for my idea at the moment is a fight scene of some sort. I'm not %100 attached to the idea. I know I definently want to do something in 3D.
A few ideas of what I'm planning to do:
http://www.vimeo.com/tokyoplastic/videos  This is a good archive of all sorts of videos. If I do not do a fight scene then some of these would be a good idea of what I want to do.

I do plan on having weapons and sound in my video. I want it to to as polished as I can get it and having sound I think will add a nice effect to it. Thats about all I have at the moment. I plan on doing alot of planning on this and hopefully begin on the modeling soon.

I think this is an awesome idea. Even if you don't stick with the fight scene, there is a number of things that you can do after you model the main characters. (i'm guessing, i don't work much with 3D)

  3. I think you should if you can try to breach beyond what you want and try for a bit longer of an animation. 30-60 seconds is not very long. I think you may find at that short it will be hard to get the viewer immersed into the scene and understand why they are fighting or who they are and why we should relate to them or even if we should. I think it may need some more brainstorming to open up some great ideas.
